Find the Correct Power Adapter and Cable for Your Mac Laptop

Learn which power adapter, cable, and plug are suitable for your Mac laptop.

The power adapter for Mac notebook computers has eight power specifications: 29W, 30W, 45W, 60W, 61W, 85W, 87W and 96W. You should use the power adapter of the appropriate power according to your Mac laptop. Using a compatible power adapter with higher power will not cause any problems, but it will not increase the charging speed of the computer or change the operation of the computer. If the power of your power adapter is lower than the power of the adapter that came with your Mac, the adapter will not provide enough power for your computer.

Mac laptops that charge via USB-C come with an Apple USB-C power adapter with a detachable AC plug (also called a "duckbill plug") and a USB-C charging cable.

Mac notebooks that charge via MagSafe come with an AC power adapter with a MagSafe connector and a detachable AC power plug, and an AC charging cable.
